#3 - Green Tea
One of the things I had to cut out of my lifestyle was drinking gallons of soda pop. (Notice I included both terms for everyone to feel included.) I stopped drinking the sugar stuff over two years now and have stopped with the diet stuff for about 3 months. Even though my nutrition plan states that I can have the bubbly cold beverage here and there, it strongly suggested refraining completely. Like most things in life, if you get rid of something, you need to fill in the gap with something else or the old comes back in with full force. I tried just drinking coffee and water... that lasted a whole week... then I tried flavored water... that lasted two weeks. The only substitute for my liquid binge habit was, and is, green tea.
Besides tasting great hot or cold, green tea is loaded with anti-oxidants which help get rid of free radicals that can lead to cancer. Some even suggest that is speeds up your metabolism... and at my age, I can use all the help I can get. If you've never tried it before, let me recommend that you stop by a Chinese restaurant to sip a cup or go to a natural foods store and buy it in an individual packet. Actually, if you just ask around, I bet one or more of your friends would let you borrow one of theirs, just to try it out. If you're a first time drinker, you might want to add a spoonful of honey to sweeten it up. And when you are won over by the flavor, go all the way and drop the leaves from the bag into the water to get the truest green tea taste and the maximum nutritional benifits. Just wait for the leaves to sink to the bottom before drinking.
Cheers and happy tea drinking!
Green tea leftovers. Looks nasty...but really tasty.
